Fleeting Flavor

A little known fact about me… I love bubble gum! This girl has to grab a quarter anytime I see a gumball machine at a restaurant, and it’s hard for me to resist $.05 Hubba Bubba at gas stations.

I don’t know why I love bubble gum so, for as we all know, the flavor only last a couple of minutes! But isn’t this true in other areas of our life? Even though we know sin will not give us true joy, we choose to indulge our worldly nature. Sometimes the “flavor” lasts for a few minutes, sometimes even for a couple of months or years, but every time, just like with bubble  gum, we are left with a nasty taste in our mouth.

True satisfaction can only come through Jesus! In John 4, Jesus speaks to a woman who has looked for love and satisfaction in all the wrong places. He offers her, and us, living water!

“Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.'”

‭‭John‬ ‭4:13-14‬ ‭NLT‬

Let us choose living water over cheap, worldy treats that won’t bring us joy this week!
